PRIVACY ISSUES AND REGISTRATION
1. Do I have to pay to use Jobsnet?
All Jobnet services are offered to all jobseekers free of charge. You will
however be required to register in order to post your resume and apply for
jobs.
2. Can I search for jobs without registering?
Non-registered jobseekers can still search and browse for jobs and read the
Jobseeker Resources articles. Non-registered jobseekers can also apply for jobs
via email.
3 Why should I register?
Please refer to Why
Register
4. How soon can I start applying for jobs after I register?
After registering and completing your resume, you can start browsing, searching
and applying for jobs right away. The entire registration process will take
less than five minutes.
5. How do I register?
Registration is simple; simply click on 'Register Now' to begin. First you will
be asked to choose a login ID and password. Try to strike a balance
between something that is not easy to guess but not too difficult to remember.
After this you will be asked to fill in several fields regarding your personal
particulars (eg. name, address, telephone number), your educational
qualifications as well as your work experience and skills. These will be
compiled to form your personal profile.
You must also provide your email; make sure that you enter a valid email address
that you check frequently, as any correspondence will be sent to this email
address. This might include replies from prospective employers or emails
regarding forgotten passwords.
Throughout registration you will be allowed the option of hiding certain fields
of information from jobseekers such as telephone number and email. Lastly, you
can indicate whether you want to receive job alerts and specify job categories
that you are interested in.
6. What should I do after registering?
After registering, you should fill in your resume. You will be able to
apply for jobs only after you have fully completed this section. In addition,
you may want to create your own web resume or WebRez. This can be done
easily by cutting and pasting onto the WebRez form provided, or creating one
using the HTML functions provided. You may also wish to enable 'Password
Protection' for your WebRez by clicking on the 'Password Protection'
function in the 'My Account' column on the right hand side of the page after
you login. Following this, you are free to browse, search and save job ads,
and apply for jobs you are interested in. To read about your resume
options,
click here. To read about password protection and other privacy
options, click
here.
When you begin your job search again
you can just return to our website and re-activate your account. This is the
second option in the 'Account Status' function. To access this function, login
and click on 'Account Status' in the menu of options on the right hand side.
You can then enable either the 'Deactivate Account' or 'Reactivate Account'
options, whichever is suitable.
The 'Account Status' function allows
you to do two things. First, you can deactivate your account. This will be
useful if you are no longer actively searching for jobs, allowing you to
maintain an account with Jobsnet while keeping it inactive. In this event, all
services to your account will be temporarily suspended. You will no longer
receive any job alerts and employers will not be able to view your resume in
anyway. Jobs you have applied in the passed will be shown as "application
withdrawn".
9. I am no longer looking for jobs.
How can I inactivate my account?
8. How do I view and edit my
profile?
After you login, you can manage your
profile with the functions in the 'My Account' column on the right hand side of
the page. If you wish to view or edit your profile, simply click the 'View/Edit
Profile' function and make the desired changes. Remember to click 'Save' after
you are done.
Jobsnet takes significant measures to ensure the confidentiality of your
personal information. If you choose to hide your resume, registered employers
will have no access to your profile unless you apply for their job
advertisements. Jobsnet offers you the further option of hiding fields in your
resume, eg. your name, gender, age, address and telephone number. In addition,
you can restrict access to your WebRez with a password. With this selected
employers will be able to view your web resume only after you provide them with
your password. You will be offered these options during registration, and you
can also activate them at any time by editing your profile. Remember also that
you may view, edit and delete your personal particulars at any time. To read
more about your privacy options,
10. I don't want to deactivate my
account, I just want my resume to be kept private.
If you wish to keep your account
active but just want to keep your resume from being searchable by employers,
you can use the 'Resume Status' function instead. This allows you to hide your
resume or alternatively, to publish it in Jobsnet's resume database. To do
this, login and click on 'Resume Status' in the right hand side menu. You can
then enable either the 'Hide Resume' and 'Publish Resume' options, whichever is
suitable. By hiding your resume, Your resume and personal particulars are shown
ONLY to the employers whom jobs you applied. Please be reminded that once you
check this button, employers will not be able to find you when they do a resume
search.
You can search for jobs directly
from Jobsnet's front page. Simply fill in the fields in the advanced search
frame and search for jobs using one or all of the following options. You can
also click 'Job Search' on the Jobseeker menu on the left hand side.
1. How do I search for jobs?

the Jobsnet index page.

databank
4. How do I apply for a job?
You may 'Quick Apply' if this is specified in the job ad. Just click on
the 'Quick Apply' button right below the job ad. However, if it is stated
"Please do not use the 'Quick Apply' option", do not use this function.
Instead, be sure to follow the instructions provided by the employer.
This might mean sending in your application by email or post. You may also
inform your chosen employers with the URL of your WebRez, along with your
password if you have enabled 'Password Protection' for your WebRez. To read
more about applying for a job online,

5. What is the difference between emailing my resume and sending it through
Jobsnet’s Quick Apply?
In recent years, many employers have been phasing out ‘apply via email’ with
their own online recruitment solutions. This is especially true in the case of
MNCs and other big organizations which cannot afford to spend precious time and
energy opening and sifting through thousands of email applications. If you
apply to a major corporation today, chances are you will be directed to ‘apply
online’ at the company’s own website. This allows you to input your
information, which is then collated in the company’s recruitment database for
later selection.
Jobsnet presents employers with one such recruitment solution, giving firms
their own database with which to manage job applicants easily and efficiently.
As such, when you use the ‘Quick Apply’ function, your resume and cover letter
goes straight to the employer’s database. Here, the employer will find it
easier to process all the applications they have and choose their best
candidate. So don’t lose out on being spotted, make sure you use such online
jobsite features to supplement emailing your resume. To read more about
searching for jobs online,

2. I just want to browse through job
openings; how do I browse jobs?
Browsing jobs is easy. Simply look
through the categories in the 'Job Category' section on the Jobsnet index page.
This section covers all the job ads posted on the website by Jobsnet employers.
The 'Featured Jobs' section also profiles some of the job ads posted by our
Featured Employers. The 'Latest Jobs' frame is extremely useful to the active
jobseeker in highlighting the latest job openings in Singapore. You may also
search for jobs through our company listings pages which includes premium
employers from Singapore.
After filling in all or some of the
search fields, just click on 'Search'. A list of all the jobs fulfilling your
search requirements will be presented. If you wish to save any of these jobs,
simply click on the particular job ad and press 'Save Job'. Note that you will
only be able to save jobs if you are a registered user and have logged into the
website.
Skills/Knowledge - Search for jobs
according to specific skills or knowledge sets.
WEBREZ
1. What do you mean by a web resume?
Old resumes have typically been created on word processing programs like
Microsoft Word and either sent to employers in hard copy (printed out and
mailed) or soft copy (emailed in file format). Now, jobsites offer online
jobseekers the option of submitting a resume to their sites. When a jobseeker
responds to a job ad, the prospective employer gains access to that jobseeker's
resume stored in the jobsite's database.
At Jobnet, you can go one step further by having your resume hosted at your own
unique URL. This is what we call a web resume or WebRez. Employers will not
have to login to Jobnet in order to view your resume, so they don't even have
to be Jobsnet-registered employers! All they have to do to view your online
resume is to go on the Internet and type in the URL of your WebRez. To read
more about a WebRez,
2. What is a URL?
The acronym URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator and is the technical term
for a web address. In other words, a URL refers to the address of a webpage or
file on the Internet, usually on the World Wide Web (WWW). The URL for Jobsnet,
for example, is http://www.Jobsnet.asia.
3. Why are there two resume functions in my menu of options? What is the
difference between a 'Resume' and a 'Web Resume'?
Jobsnet gives jobseekers two resume options. The first allows you to save a
resume in the Jobsnet database. Called simply a 'Resume', this information will
be available to Jobsnet-registered employers only. The second gives you a web
address at which to host your resume independently on the web. Such an online
resume, or what we call a 'WebRez', will be available to even non-Jobsnet
affiliated Internet users. In essence this means we are giving you your own
webpage at which to publish your resume.
Your WebRez can just be a cut-and-paste of your normal 'Resume' at Jobsnet, or
of a resume you have created in Microsoft Word format. Or it can be a more
detailed and elaborate version, for example, with graphics and live links.
Other differences are:
To read more about these two features,

4. What is the difference between emailing my resume and posting it on the web?
Jobsnet’s WebRez function allows you to have a web version of your resume
online, with its very own password-protectable URL. This is different from
emailing your curriculum vitae in response to a job ad, which simply gives an
employer a time-dated copy of your resume.
To access your resume through email, an employer has to read the email and open
or save your attached file. Things can get complicated if the program you used
to create your resume is not compatible with those on the employer's computer.
If you have posted a web resume all the employer has to do is to go online and
type in the URL of your WebRez. The resume will be displayed immediately, and
regardless of the format that you used to create it.
A significant benefit of having a web resume is that your resume will never be
lost even in the event of your hard disk crashing. A WebRez is always
accessible anytime and anywhere, as long as you have an Internet connection. So
you can change it from a friend's house, or even from overseas!
In addition, any updates you make are immediately viewable by your prospective
employer. This makes your resume dynamic. To read about other benefits of a web
resume,

6. Who will get to see my resume at
Jobsnet?
Employers can view your resume only if you apply to their job ad. In addition,
you can choose to hide certain fields such as your name, address, telephone
number and other information that you do not wish to reveal. To read about
other privacy options,
5. How do I post my WebRez?
Our unique i-frame technology makes things even simpler for you by allowing you
to cut and paste a resume that you have already created using other computer
programs. You can also paste live links to direct employers to your website. If
you have not yet created a resume, you can still create a simple WebRez easily.
Just login, click on 'Edit Web Resume' and put together your resume using the
HTML functions provided. The moment you click 'Save Resume', you will have a
web resume with its own unique URL. For a more detailed explanation, click
here.
8. How do I enable password protection?
(Click on
'Password Protection' page)
9. How do I write a good resume?
We have collated some resume and cover letter writing resources specially for
Singapore online jobseekers. You can read them at the Resource Centre (click
here). Make sure that you take time to fill out an attractive and articulate
WebRez. Your resume and cover letter is a prospective employer's first point of
contact with you, so do not dismiss them too lightly.
10. How do I update or edit my WebRez?
After you login, a menu of options is available to you on the right hand column.
Click on 'Edit Web Resume'. You will be shown the web resume that you filled up
previously. Cut and paste your changes or use the HTML functions provided. When
you have finished, click on 'Save Web Resume' to update the new changes.

Jobsnet?
You can choose to make your WebRez freely viewable to anyone who types in its
URL or restrict access with a password. The first option allows anybody to view
your resume - your friends, employers and even Internet users who are not
registered with Jobsnet. The second 'Password Protection' option ensures that
only employers to whom you have given your password will be able to view your

about the Databank,

this?
withdraw an application, login and click on 'Application History' in the menu of

you have made. Browse through all these to find the application you wish to
withdraw. Then click on the 'Withdraw Application' icon for that particular
job. This icon is in the (XX) column from the right.
After you have withdrawn your application, if the employer clicks on your
application or tries to view your resume, a window with the words
Application Withdrawn' will popup to indicate your withdrawal status. This
safeguards the privacy of your personal information by denying access to
employers whose job openings you no longer wish to apply for. To read more,

withdraw one application,

9. What about scam ads? What is the credibility check?
At Jobsnet, we regularly check through all job ads to ensure that only postings
for legitimate positions are made. In addition, we also screen employers before
they are able to post job ads and get in touch with jobseekers. This is a
stringent credibility check to ensure that only job ads by authentic companies
are posted. As such, employers should be warned that certain types of job ads
such as those advertising home-based positions are strictly prohibited. To read
more about the screening process,

5. What's a good password to use?
A good password is a trade off between something that is difficult to guess yet
easy to remember. Experts discourage the use of common words found in the
dictionary and recommend guidelines such as using both upper and lower case
letters and interspersing them with numbers and punctuation. (Remember that
your password is case-sensitive, so make sure that your Caps Lock is off before
you type in your password.) You might also consider changing your password
frequently - but don't forget your new password!
